Like conventional matting, digital matting is used to create a transition from the photo to the frame and is often used to group two or more photos together within the same frame. Digital matting offers a variety of possibilities and is available in the following formats -

1) Single Color

Single color digital matting is available in virtually any color imaginable. The color can even be extracted from a portion of your image as shown in the samples below.

 

2) Dual Color

Two color digital matting is available in virtually any colors imaginable and is used to simulate conventional matting results. This is done by placing a thin border of your second color around your photo, accentuating your photo and simulating the beveled window (that results from the 45 degree angled cut that slopes from the top of the mat down to the photo) and the matting material core exposed during the cutting process .

 

3) Use A Digital Image To Matte Your Photo

Digital images can be used as digital matting material. This may best be described by simply referring to the samples below, shown with 'black' as the simulated matting material core.
